Iola Food Pantry open Nov. 18

The 30th annual Bruce Family Reunion was held at Keith Community Center Sunday, Nov. 5, with around 35 family members and visitors present. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all. There was a successful auction featuring a variety of items. The reunion featured the Melvin and Edna Bruce family. Their only living daughter, Cora Bruce Lucas, was present along with several of her children and their children. The children now deceased are George Bruce, Ecelyn Bruce Roberts, Lena Bruce Jarvis and Ruth Bruce Whitmire. Everyone had a good time and plan to meet again next year.

There was a football game in Iola Nov. 3, against Bremond. Bremond won 40-0. Hopefully Iola will do better next year.

Evergreen Baptist Church annual Thanksgiving meal is Sunday, Nov. 19, following the church service. The turkey, ham and dressing will be provided. Everyone else will bring sides and desserts. Do make plans to attend.

Keith Civic Club will meet a week early,Thursday, Nov. 16.The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m. The business meeting will follow. This will be the final meeting of the year, so make plans to attend. Come out and meet with your friends and neighbors. Hope to see you there.

Pyramid Masonic Lodge No. 593 will meet at their lodge hall in North ZulchTuesday, Nov. 21.The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish meal and will be followed by the lodge meeting. All Masons are invited to attend.

The monthly food pantry at the Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9-11 a.m. Anyone in need of a helping hand are invited to come out for assistance. The day before, around noon, the community is invited to help set up the pantry. Do come out and help those less fortunate. Assistance either day is always appreciated.

Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Vivian Mallett McDougald who passed away Nov. 1. She was preceded in death by her husband C.G. McDougald. Her funeral was held at Iola Missionary Baptist Church with the church pastor, Dr. Tim Owens officiating. Her children Ricky, Randy, Roddy and other family members survive her. She was born Oct. 11, 1920 to Walter and Trannie Mallett. She was buried in Concord Cemetery near Iola. The Iola North Zulch Order of the Eastern Star participated in the service because she was a longtime member. Do remember her loved ones in your prayers.

Connie Francis of Keith fell and broke her hip last week. She is now home and recovering nicely. Do remember her in your prayers.

Funeral services for Betty Jo Vaughn Dane who passed away Oct. 28, were held at the home of her brother Davis Lee Vaughn and wife Debbie Wednesday, Nov. 8. She had lived with them for several years. She was born July 4, 1939 to John Davis and Oma Lee Pyle Vaughn. Her cousin, John Ray Maxwell led the service along with other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilson Dane and other family members. She is survived by two sons, Wilson Jr. and Fred “Friday,” and several grandchildren. Do remember them all in your prayers.

There was certainly a good turnout for the Constitutional Election at the Keith Community Center Tuesday, Nov. 7. There were 286 people who came to vote. The workers wereTina Templeton, Diane Cahill, Jo Pearce and Dustin Crosby. Thanks to all of them for their hard work and for those who voted. I am sure there will be a full report of what passed and failed. Thanks to all the voters and workers throughout the county.
