A benefit sponsored by American Legion McCluskey Post 640 for our veterans will be held Saturday, Jan. 22, from noon till 5 p.m. at Knights of Columbus Hall, Hwy 90, in Anderson. Admission is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Children under six are free. Admission includes two hot dogs, chips and a drink. The 5th annual King’s Daughter Conference was rescheduled from Jan. 8. It will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at The Place of Grace Church, 8658 CR313 in the Blackberry Community, Plantersville. The second annual A Cause For Paws Fundraiser Festival benefitting the Grimes County Animal Rescue will be held Saturday, March 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the Grimes County Expo Center. Music will be provided by Derek Spence, a tribute to George Strait.

Grimes County Go Texan BBQ Cook-off with the Plantersville Swangers will be held Saturday, Jan. 29, from 4-8 p.m. The event will be held at Grimes County Fairgrounds in Navasota. Live music will be provided by Koka Kola Cowboyz.

Monday, April 18, is the deadline to file your taxes due to the holiday in the federal capital. Federal offices will be closed Friday, April 15. April 18 will also be the deadline to request an automatic extension for an extra six months to file a return though the payment of taxes remain the same.

Beginning Feb. 2, Grimes County Commissioners Court meetings will be held in the new Grimes County Justice & Business Center. The official ribbon cutting of the center was held Friday, Dec. 31.
