School days are up and running! I know my grandkids and family members are excited and have had good days so far. No principal visits yet! That’s a good thing. Speaking of principals, a big welcome to our new elementary principal Stacey (Ketkoski) Zielonka who took the place of retiring principal Marcy Pavlock. Stacey is “back home,” she was a 1998 graduate of Anderson-Shiro.

This year I had to go into the DPS office to renew my driver’s license and take a new picture. They suggest you make an appointment – that’s a big joke! Even though I had an appointment, I still had to get in back of the line of all those who already checked in ahead of me – some had appointments, and some didn’t. Ugh! Glad that’s over with for a while.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville will hold their bazaar on Labor Day Sunday, Sept. 5 on the church grounds. Come join this parish at their annual festive occasion which includes an old-fashioned country barbecue dinner with all the trimmings beginning at 11 a.m., games and booths, live and silent auctions, a raffle and a heaping dose of fun and fellowship.

Condolences to the family of Joyce Ann Leiber of Anderson who died this past week on Aug. 11. Joyce was one of the first women I met when I moved to Anderson over 33 years ago. Joyce and I served together in the American Legion Post 640 Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She is one of the sweetest ladies I know and lived life to the fullest until just a few months ago. She will be missed dearly by so many.

I recently read this quote: “Maybe when the door of happiness closes, another opens but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don’t see the one which has been opened for us.” Isn’t that a true statement?
