Grimes County Chamber of Commerce is hosting an after-hours mixer at the Grimes County Veterans of Foreign War building, 1575 W. Washington Ave in Navasota, Thursday, July 25 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The city of Plantersville held their monthly meeting June 10 and discussed the State Highway 249 and Farm to Market 1774 project as well as the SH 105 and FM 1774 project.

There will be a three-day symposium July 23 through 25, to hear from the leaders in autism research and practice. This year’s keynote speaker Ron Suskind is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, best-selling author and the force behind the Sidekicks mobile app.

Suskin’s best-seller, “Life Animated” chronicles his family’s 20-year journey raising and connecting with their autistic son. The Sus-kinds are also the subject of an award-wining documentary with the same title.

Other speakers include Dr. Barry M. Prizent, Dr. Brenda Smith Myles and Cheryl Boucher. Complimentary lunch will be provided, and attendees will receive a copy of Suskind’s book. Register at, #R4Autism.

The Guardian Angels of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville is sponsoring a five-day, four-night trip to Biloxi and New Orleans Sept. 23 through 27. The price is $499 per person based on double occupancy. A deposit of $74 was due in May. Contact Nancy Schlottman, 936-597-8327.

“Cheers to Craft Beer” will host its fifth annual event craft beer tasting in downtown Bryan July 20, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event features beer tastings inside of downtown retail stores and restaurants. Each ticket includes a keepsake tasting glass and a map of all the participating merchants. Visit for more information.

Navasota ISD is hiring bus drivers. If you or someone you know is looking for a job call 936-825-1813. No previous experience is necessary, and they will train you to obtain your CDL.

There will be a food safety workshop Friday, August 2 from 8 a.m. till 2 p.m. at the Grimes Annex Building in Navasota, 205 Veterans Memorial Dr. Lessons in kitchen safety and handwashing techniques are some of the areas that will be taught. St. Mary Catholic Church in Plantersville will celebrate its 125th Homecoming Bazaar Sunday, Sept. 1, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The church is located at 8227 CR 205.
