The Vernon family reunion was held at the Keith Community Center Saturday, June 22. Around 50 family members attended with Louise Vernon Cheevers who turns 96 in August, the eldest family member in attendance. Cheevers is the last surviving child of Edwin Vernon. A great time was had by all. It’s uncertain when and where the next reunion will take place.

The annual vacation bible school at Evergreen Baptist Church was a success. The school started June 17 and ran through June 20. During VBS children raised money for water wells in Tanzania, Africa. Last year, the boys raised the most amount of money, but the girls earned bragging rights this year. In all, $216 was raised for the worthwhile project. An average of 50 children attended daily and there were approximately 40 volunteers. God bless each one that helped make the school a success.

There was a spaghetti lunch and silent auction at the close of the morning worship service to help raise money for the younger children of Evergreen Baptist Church to attend church camp this year. There was good attendance and $1,283 was raised. Thanks to all that made the event a success.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Fourth of July this week. Let us never forget all those that gave their lives so that we could be a free nation. Also say a prayer for all the men and women who are in service in various parts of the world. Also pray for those who were wounded. May they never be forgotten.
