Friends of Troop 361 in Navasota is a group supporting the local Boy Scout Troop by providing fund raising projects that allow the youth to pay for some or all their own outdoor program costs. This allows the youth to grow both through the excellent Scout program but also to gain the experience and pride in paying for much of the extra costs of the camps and other outdoor programs that are part of the scouting experience. This allows the youth to feel like they have contributed to paying for the cost of their activity and not having to rely on their parents to pay their way. One such program is the Troop 361 Coffee, a craft roasted single country sourced coffee that delivers a superior quality cup of morning java. Presently the youth have been selling the 12.5-ounce bags of ground coffee for $10 through friends and family. The program will expand and grow as word spreads and more residents discover the flavor and richness of quality coffee. At this time a breakfast roast – Town Square, a medium roast Heritage – as well as a dark roast Trailblazer is offered. All coffee is freshly roasted and ground but whole bean can be requested. Other roasts will be added as demand develops and methods of making the coffee easily obtained are being investigated. This program gives youth a way to begin developing a sense of pride in their own accomplishment, delivers a great product to the consumer, and helps the coffee growers by providing an outlet for their efforts at a better price.
