Grimes County Commissioners Court held a Special Meeting March 12 and took action to hire Talita Coleman to head the county’s Human Resources Department. Current director Lucy Pope will retire May 29, exactly 14 years to the day from when her employment with Grimes County began in 2006.

In January, incoming director Coleman completed nine years of employment with Grimes County where she works as Assistant Auditor.

The position was initially posted internally, according to policy, and commissioners conducted interviews with three internal candidates Monday, Dec. 9.

After the motion to hire Coleman, Pct. 3 Commissioner Barbara Walker said, “It just reaffirms my confidence that we have capable and willing people here in Grimes County to serve us.”

In other court action, commissioners certified and canvassed the returns for the March 3, 2020 Primary Election for both Democrat and Republican parties as presented by Elections Administrator Lucy Ybarra.

According to the report distributed to commissioners, there are currently 16,722 registered voters in Grimes County and 5,187 voted in the Primary Election.
