Elected officials, city and county employees and residents attended a community meeting Wednesday, May 25, hosted by the Brazos Valley Council of Governments (BVCOG) focusing on Grimes County’s “resiliency.” The meeting was held at the Grimes County Justice and Business Center and facilitated by Cagan Baldree, Program Manager for the Public Safety Planning Team of the BVCOG.

Baldree described the meetings as a way “to gather information for the COG to write a regional economic resiliency plan.”

He said, “In the aftermath of covid, they received grant funding to do that sort of plan.”

Meetings are being conducted in each county in the region so the BVCOG can assess both common and unique needs and “know where the region is at as a whole.” Baldree praised Grimes County’s response to the meeting, noting it has been the most highly attended.

Those who attended freely responded to Baldree’s assorted topics using SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) such as the impact of covid on Grimes County’ businesses during and post-covid, how the attendees perceive their community, problem areas such as communication with rural parts of the county, housing, workforce issues, transportation, health care, crime, the backlog of cases in the court system, unfunded mandates, taxation and issues affecting the elderly.
