Grimes County District Attorney Andria Bender announced she would seek reelection at the Republican Party meeting in Anderson Oct. 2.

Bender began her career in Grimes County as an Assistant District Attorney in 1999 under then District Attorney Tuck McLain. She developed a reputation as a tough prosecutor, who fearlessly fought for victims and championed the work of local law enforcement officers.

On Oct. 30, 2017, Bender was sworn in as Grimes County District Attorney, after being appointed by Governor Greg Abbott, to fill the vacated position created when Tuck McLain was appointed as the first Grimes County at Law Judge.

On Nov. 3, 2020, Bender was elected to her first full term as District Attorney.

Since becoming District Attorney, Bender and her team have successfully tried numerous cases in front of Grimes County Juries. Many of those guilty verdicts have resulted in a life sentence for the defendant.

Under Bender’s administration, the staff of the District Attorney’s Office has grown to better serve the community. New positions added include an Assistant District Attorney, an Investigator/ Forensic Cell Phone Expert and a Legal Assistant. With the Grimes County Justice Center opening in 2022, population growth, and more than 15 new law enforcement officer positions being added with Grimes County, Bender pushed for additional resources to manage the case volume and additional court settings.

Bender has made it a priority of the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office to ensure cases are being moved through the legal system to a professional and efficient manner. Victims of crime receiving services and being cared for in a meaningful way is another cornerstone priority of the District Attorney. Under Bender’s leadership, the District Attorney’s Office will continue to prosecute all criminal violations of state law. Resources will continue to be focused on sending habitual criminals, child abusers, violent criminals and drug dealers to prison.

“It has been one of the greatest honors of my life to serve the Grimes County community as District Attorney,” said Bender. “It will always be a priority to me and my team to fight for victims of crime and to ensure justice is done. As long as I am District Attorney, I will continue to do my part to keep our community safe and criminals will continue to know why the Grimes County Crime Stoppers logo reads, YOU DO THE CRIME, YOU DO THE TIME!”
