Grimes County author and historian Betty Dunn was presented a Certificate of Recognition for her “outstanding work in historic preservation” at the Dec. 5 meeting of the Two Rivers Heritage Foundation. Dunn, a founding member of the organization, has been instrumental in obtaining Texas Historical Commission markers for sites throughout Grimes County as well as historic cemetery designations.

Two Rivers Chairman Kathy Wells said, “She’s been active in documenting found cemeteries in Grimes County, writing local sandbar histories, supporting historic preservation and much more!”

Before moving to Texas, Dunn was a career newspaper woman and she maintains those ties to print media as a contributor to the Navasota Examiner.

Several years ago, Two Rivers Heritage Foundation published two books written by Dunn, Sandbar Histories and Sandbar Histories II. The books bring to life the events and the tough and tender forward thinkers that are part of Navasota and Grimes County history. Dunn’s Sandbar stories are also available in her column, Grains From the Sandbar.
