A Mexia man was involved in a deadly collision with a tractor-trailer Thursday, July 18, at 4 p.m.

Investigators reported a 2006 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was at a stop in the northbound lane near the intersection of Texas State Highway 90 and Farm to Market Road 244, preparing to make a left-hand turn into a private driveway.

As he was awaiting traffic to clear, his trailer was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet pickup driven by Daryl Brooks, age 44.

Sargant Jimmy Morgan with DPS said it appeared Brooks swerved at the last moment.

Brooks was transported to CHI St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan where he was pronounced deceased. Morgan said an autopsy was ordered on Brooks.

The investigation is ongoing, and no citations were issued. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

Traffic was stopped for approximately 3.5 hours.
