National voter registration day is Tuesday Sept. 20, and Grimes County Elections Department is traveling throughout the county to promote the big day.

Grimes County Elections Administrator, Lucy Ybarra, has visited multiple meetings and local media outlets to bring awareness to voter registration. Commissioners, council members, newspaper and radio staff have all posed for a photo with a newly created sign ahead of the big day. The photos will be used to create a social-media blast. A QR code has also been created that links to the Grimes County Elections website where the community can register to vote online and find a plethora of important election information.

Grimes County currently has more than 18,000 registered voters, but still has a large number that remain unregistered. “It is important for everyone to exercise their right to vote and each year a day is set aside to bring national awareness to voter registration,” said Ybarra. “If you don’t vote, you can’t complain. Use your voice where it can be heard the loudest, at your local polling place.”

In-person voter registration will be available at several location on National Voter Registration Day. Locations include:

  • Bedias State Bank, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Brookshire Brothers, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • City of Todd Mission, 1-5 p.m.
  • Grimes County Courthouse, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The final day to register to vote ahead of the 2022 November General Election is Oct. 11. Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Early voting begins Oct. 24. There are multiple races that are of interest to Grimes County voters including: Texas Governor, Texas Senate and locally, Richards Independent School District Board of Trustee positions. Sample ballots will be posted to the GC Elections website, www.grimescountytexas.gov on or before Oct. 1. Voting locations and hours are also posted on the website.
