More than three dozen Grimes County residents braved the afternoon heat to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the day that changed the course of world history – D-Day, June 6, 1944, the Normandy Invasion.

The celebration to honor American’s armed forces of World War II was a collaborative effort of VFW Post 4006 and Auxiliary, the Robert Raines Chapter of the National Society-Daughters of the American Revolution and the Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce.

Program participants included VFW Post 4006 Commander Carl Dry, Commander-Elect Tony Lambert, and Robert Raines Regent Kathy Wells. VFW Auxiliary President Georgia Molitor and Robert Raines Parliamentarian Marilyn Bettes placed a wreath at the monument. Attendees sang the “National Anthem” and “America” led by Chamber Executive Director Johnny McNally on guitar.
