All three Navasota Junior High Fang football teams picked up wins over Smithville Oct. 17, and the eighth grade Fangs earned an undefeated district championship.

Eighth Grade

Navasota breezed past Smithville on the road, 460. Derrick Booker led the Fang offense with a pair of touchdown runs for 40 and 35 yards.

Jayden Spriggs and Erick Bennette each had long touchdown runs, 55 and 50 yards respectively. Gabe Ramon had a 30-yard touchdown reception from Spriggs, and Quincy Mc-Lean returned a kickoff 60 yards for a score.

“The defense as a whole did a great job putting a stop to the Tigers run game,” said Coach Brandon Ganske. “They made it hard to get any passes off.” Standouts on defense were Latravious Blackshear, Jaylynn Mock, Jose Garcia and Jaydon Thomas.

Seventh Grade A Team The Fangs seventh-grade A team had a pair of first quarter scores to knock off Smithville 26-12.

Collin Dacus connected with Trystan Cross for an 87-yard score. Chris McGinty hauled in the conversion pass.

Dacus tossed his second touchdown of the half, this time a 29-yarder to Jabrell Joyce. Cross ran in the conversion. Cross ran for two touchdowns in the second half, 76 and 12 yards.

Defensive standouts for the Fangs were Chris Hernandez and Brasen Ramos.

Seventh Grade B Team Navasota held Smithville scoreless with a 25-0 win. Quarterback Quinnton Jessie scored both Fang touchdowns in the first half on runs of 41 and 34 yards. He also connected with Edgar Rios for the conversion on the second score.

Kaiden Kelly rushed for two Fang scores in the second half, 42 and 16 yards. Rios led the receivers with 53 receiving yards.

Defensive standouts were Julian Hernandez and Zaelyn Harris.
