RICHARDS PLACES SECOND IN GROVETON

GROVETON – The Richards Panthers finished second in the Groveton High School Volleyball tournament Aug. 18 and 20. Richards improved to 6-6 on the season led by the leadership of senior Kylie Bates and sophomore Aylana Francis.

Groveton Tournament Thursday, Aug. 18 Richards 2, Corrigan- Camden 1; Richards 2, Onalaska 1;

Saturday, Aug. 20

Richards 2, Groveton 1; Richards 2, Shepherd 1; Centerville 2, Richards 0; Richards travels to Trinity Friday, Aug. 26, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

LADY BULLDOGS SWEEP BURTON, BREMOND

The fourth-ranked Iola Lady Bulldogs (9-1) carry on their success this week with wins over Burton and Bremond. The Lady Bulldogs had a double header Tuesday, Aug. 16, defeating the Burton Lady Panthers and Bremond Lady Tigers.

Iola swept Burton 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-17). Leading hitter for the match was Lindsey Gooch with 17 kills followed by Abree Raley with 10. Leading server was Rylee Goodney with 14 points. The Lady Bulldogs knocked off Bremond 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-17). Top players for the Lady Bulldogs include leading passer, Gooch with 18 kills and Raley with 6 kills and 18 serves. Ava Bessette was also a leading passer.

Iola was back in action Tuesday, Aug. 23 as they hosted the Snook Lady Bluejays at 5 p.m. (results were not available at press time). The Lady Bulldogs will be on the road Thursday, Aug. 25, competing in the Rice Consolidated tournament. Following the tournament, Friday, Aug. 26, Iola will journey to compete against Brazos Christian at 4 p.m.

OWLS COMPETE IN DEVINE

DEVINE – The Anderson- Shiro Lady Owls placed third in the Devine High School volleyball tournament Aug. 19-20. Taylor Howell and Josey Imhoff were selected to the all-tournament team. On Friday, the Lady Owls defeated Ingleside 2-0 (25-9, 25-5), Marion (25-23, 23-25, 25-11) and Crystal City (25-14, 25-5). In Saturday action, Anderson- Shiro defeated San Antonio Feast (25-20, 29-27), lost to Devine 2-1 (27-25, 15-25, 7-25) and defeated D’Hanis (28-26, 19-25, 25-21). The Lady Owls (9-6) host their varsity tournament Aug. 25 and 27.
