Malaiya Jedkins did well in her debut for the University of Texas at Arlington women's track and field team.
The Navasota High School graduate finished third in the triple jump at the Arkansas Invitational, the indoor season opener. Her effort was 39 feet, 8.75 inches. She placed 15th in the long jump.
Jedkins competed for McNeese State University from 2019-22.

Women's basketball
Previously at Anderson-Shiro High, D'Asia White has not played for McMurry University. The senior guard was among three War Hawks named on the American Southwest Conference preseason watch list but suffered an injury that required surgery, according to Drew Long, head women's basketball coach. "She is currently rehabbing and will most likely be out the remainder of the season," he said in an email.
Iola High graduate Ava Pointer is a freshman on the East Texas Baptist University developmental team.

Men's indoor track and field
Past Rattler Ronnie Jackson has transferred to University of Louisiana at Lafayette after competing two years for McNeese State. The junior finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles and 10th in the long jump at the season opener.

Men's rodeo
Former Owl McCoy Profili and McCray Profili, who attended Anderson-Shiro, finished first in the team roping second round at the January Mid-Winter Rodeo in Lafayette, La. The brothers each earned $521, according to the Professional Cowboys Rodeo Association. They were third in average and collected $391.
