Lady Bulldogs win Coldspring Tournament

The Iola Lady Bulldogs did a phenomenal job this week picking up a thrilling win over Navasota and a tournament championship at Coldspring-Oakhurst.

Iola (24-2) started the week off fresh by winning an exciting five-set game against the Navasota Lady Rattlers Tuesday, Aug. 29, (25-27, 20-25, 25-11, 26-- 24, 15-8).

Coldspring-Oakhurst Tournament

The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Coldspring to compete in the Coldspring- Oakhurst Lady Trojans Tournament Sept 1 and 3. On Thursday, they played two games with wins over the St. Joseph Eagles (25-8, 25-12) and the Lovelady Lions (25-8, 25-18). On Saturday, Iola proceeded to the tournament once more. They secured a win over Latexo (25-16, 25-11), leading them to the championship game. In the championship game, the Lady Bulldogs played Providence, a private school from Belton, and won 2-0 (25-23, 25-16).

Vs Franklin Lady Lions

Pausing tournament activity, Iola hosted the Franklin Lions Friday, Sept. 2, sweeping the Lady Lions 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-9).

“Our young team continues to work hard and improve every week,” stated Iola Head Coach Jamie McDougald. “We have to work hard and continue to get better every week in preparation for a very tough district.”

The Iola Lady Bulldogs will have a tough game against the 2021 state runner up, Thrall, on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 4 p.m. Later in the week, they will play at Mumford, Friday, Sept. 9, beginning at 4 p.m. Come out and give the Lady Bulldogs your support.
