KATY – Navasota clinched a 4A Bi-District Championship with a 64-35, win Monday, Feb. 14, at Morton Ranch High School.

The Lady Rattlers advance to the 4A Area Round Thursday, Feb. 17, at Conroe ISD’s Grand Oaks High School, where they will take on the No. 1 team in 4A. the Hardin-Jefferson Lady Hawks. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. and Navasota are the designated visitors.

Senior Samia White led Navasota in scoring with 19 points and seven rebounds. “Samia made an incredible move on this far end offensively, then she made one of the best passes I’ve seen all year from any player,” said Navasota Head Coach Tommy Gates. “She continues to get better and having that senior leadership is what it is all about.”

Nala Richardson scored 13 for the Lady Rattlers and had six steals. Bryanna Stokes ran the offense efficiently dishing out seven assists.

Thursday won’t be an easy task for Navasota. “Unfortunately, we run into the number one team in the state. Hardin-Jefferson has been to the state championship twice in the last three years and lost last year on a buzzer beater,” explained Gates.

The Lady Hawks feature a 6-foot-4 guard, Duke commit Ashlon Jackson, who is a McDonalds All-American. Gates said they also have a sophomore that is committed to the University of Texas. “They are loaded, but it wasn’t too long ago, we played them when they were the number three ranked team in the state and beat them in overtime. That is why we play the game, and I promise we will be ready to play,” stated Gates.
