Kacal talks COLA with retired school personnel

Examiner photo by Connie Clements District 12 State Representative Kyle Kacal addressed the Grimes County Retired School Personnel membership at their monthly meeting Jan. 24 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Anderson.
After providing an overview of the opening days of the 88th Texas Legislative Session which began Jan. 10 and runs through May 29, Kacal listened to members’ concerns about the State of Texas’ seemingly unwillingness to provide a COLA (cost-of-living-adjustment) to the 190,000-plus retired school personnel in the Teachers Retirement System.
Citing COLA support from House Speaker Dade Phelan and the $44 billion surplus, Kacal said, “Our Public Education committee will be focused on it.”
