Richards News

On Sunday evening if you were passing through Richards and you thought you heard beautiful music, you weren’t hearing things. A large crowd turned out for the Fifth Sunday Singing and it was so beautiful in every way. It was at Union Grove Baptist Church and they were celebrating Bobby Montgomery’s retirement. Bobby has been the music minister for 20 years.

The new music minister was introduced and there was special music by several singers, groups and the choir. Refreshments were served following the event. There was great fellowship and lots of catching up with a great group of people. Everyone had a real nice time.

Some of the Volunteer Fire departments in our area are asking for your input. Anderson VFD recently made the following post on Facebook. “This week in a surprising move our Grimes County Officials surprisingly approved eliminating over 50 percent of the operating budget for all fire rescue services in Grimes County. Historically these services have been fire protection and prevention, traffic and roadway safety, EMS and Air Med and logistical support, vehicle extraction, high water rescue, mutual aid, and other services intended to preserve life and protect property across our county. The funding elimination comes when the need for Grimes County Fire rescue services is growing and the cost of providing these critical services is increasing.”

All seniors ages 60 years and up, who live in the area from Richards to Singleton, and all points between are invited to the Shiro senior luncheon Oct,16, from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. It will be held at the Shiro Civic building, 9594 Volunteer Ave. in Shiro. Last week was my birthday week and I was celebrating all week. My children were very good and celebrated with me more than once. The last party was held at the home of James and Jenna Blair Friday. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed an ice cream birthday cake and visiting with each other.
