Read moreThe monthly food pantry held in the fellowship hall at Iola Missionary Baptist Church Dec. 21 was well attended. All sort of good food including canned goods, turkey, bread, fresh vegetables and more were distributed. Around 100 people came for food and the food distributed will feed around 278 people. The pantry is open the third Saturday each month and is open to anyone that needs a helping hand.

Read moreEvergreen Baptist Church had their Christmas party Dec. 15. There were around 45 people present. A fajita meal with all the trimmings and desserts were served. Everyone had a good time. A variety of games were played and there was a gift exchange including gift cards, toys and other items. Everyone seemed happy with their prizes.

Read moreSaturday, Dec. 7, was Pearl Harbor Day. That was the beginning of World War 2. Waymon Boney Blount, the son of Robert and Lillia Blount, died at Pearl Harbor. His parents had a memorial marker placed in Evergreen Cemetery in his memory. An American flag was also placed in his memory. That was 83 years ago.
