Mother’s Day at our home was a beautiful day inside and out. The weather was gorgeous, and it was ever so good to see my brother and sisters and their families as well as our kids and their families. We reminisced about our mothers and our kids reminisced about us.

A few of our beloved area restaurants are stepping out in offering limited dinein services for those brave/adventurous souls who may not be as vulnerable or at risk as some others. Among those establishments that come to mind are The Pit Stop in Bedias and Walker’s Café in Madisonville. We are confident you have your favorites. Please let them know you appreciate their good efforts to serve our community and do nothing to further place them at risk.

I had my first trip out since March 13, and I made sure we weren’t stopping anywhere until we reached our destination. It was good to see different scenery, but I was also nervous what to expect. My husband is the only one in our household who has been going out. It was easier for him and I since he didn’t mind going out.

Armadillos are digging in my yard and I have holes everywhere. The Robbins family have come over several times to set a trap to try and catch that varmint. Even though we have not been successful I still have high hopes. I am very blessed to live in Whitehall amongst these helpful neighbors.

Several area churches were open again since the coronavirus began. Evergreen Baptist Church reopened for the first time since Sunday, March 15. There were approximately 50% present with others watching online. Carlos Fellowship Church was open as well. Others are still closed but will hopefully open soon. As the Bible says, “this too will pass.” Just keep praying for things to get back to normal.

Richards Volunteer Fire Department has exciting news! They received a High-Water Rescue and Brush Truck from a grant from the National Forestry Service they applied for four years ago. They are now asking for community assistance.

Give the Gift of Blood! The Knights of Columbus Council #4054 will host a Blood Drive on May 10, in the St. Stanislaus Parish hall. Blood and blood products are in short supply and donors are needed now to provide for this critical need. Donors must sign-up in advance online at www. giveblood.org. The Blood Center is adjusting their appointment schedule to balance out donations and prevent over-crowding during blood drives. To make an appointment, log onto the website, click on schedule to donate; under quick links select city search and enter Anderson, scroll down to St. Stanislaus, click on schedule and select a convenient time between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to donate.

As we spend our days at home with loved ones, searching too often bare shelves at our local retail stores, or making a quick stop at a favorite eating place for a to go meal, please take the opportunity to offer an encouraging and cheerful word to all within speaking or waving distance. Our hearts need that essential uplift, perhaps now more than any time in recent memory.
