Many hours go into preparing for the fair that takes place in our county each year. This year was no exception as things had to be done a little different than normal years.
Read moreI attended the wedding of my oldest granddaughter last weekend. Of course, I got lost, again. I was only 2.9 miles from my turnoff but back in the area where the wedding was held, it seemed more like 29 miles. I only thought CR 302 was curvy, nope! However, there are those big arrows instructing you which way to turn prior to coming up on the curve. The weather was good for an outside casual attire event and the hosting family did a wonderful job for Stephanie and Brandon. Being the grandma, I had a corsage, too! Not sure it looked that good with jeans. With that said, I have a grandson-in–law and three more great grandchildren to add to this already crazy group.

Read moreThe Iola Bulldog seniors lined the street outside of Bulldog Stadium dressed in their cap and gowns and witnessed a parade put on by the school and community to honor their achievements. Seniors have been secluded due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Friday, May 22, they stood “socially distanced” according to CDC guidelines but strongly together as the community offered a gesture of support to what they have and will face in the future. Read moreAs we have done for more than a decade, this week’s Examiner will celebrate the amazing seniors who are graduating throughout Grimes County. We put their names and pictures in the paper; we introduce you to their intended majors and high school hobbies. The Examiner celebrates these students as if they are our own—in some cases they are, such as my nephew Mark who is in the top 10 of his class at Navasota and has committed to TAMU. He and all of his fellow graduates make me proud of this community and the things we will achieve in the future. It is because of the students’ hard-fought achievements that we put together this section each year. Yet, this special section is one of the few things that will be “normal” for the 2020 graduates from Navasota, Anderson-Shiro, Iola and Richards.
