Read moreGrimes County AgriLife is hosting a single–day 4-H camp Saturday, Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Grimes County Annex, 205 Veterans Memorial Drive in Navasota. There will be gardening activities for Clover kids, ages 5-7. Members 8 to18 will experience horticulture, Master Gardeners, create a design in fashion, create a food and nutrition dish, archery using safety arrows, archery using safety arrows and photography camera basics. Read moreThe funeral for Jimmie Ruth Bess Coneley, 72, was held at Madisonville Funeral Home Aug. 9. Her burial was in the Concord Cemetery in Iola where her parents are buried. She was born Sept. 30, 1951, to James William J.R. and Mary Lou Mallett Bess and passed away Aug. 3. She was the third child. Her and her ex–husband, Gordon Coneley, had two children – James Brandon Coneley and Ann Dean Coneley Grinnell. She also had several grandchildren. In 1970 she graduated from Iola High School. Do remember her children and other family members in your prayers.

Read moreI’ve been glued to my office chair working this week working on things for the VFW Auxiliary. It is now manageable chaos. Little Man was here one day recuperating from a virus and hurt foot. We enjoyed Paw Patrol, Spider Man and coloring. He is good now. I need a notebook to keep up with all the characters names. And we sprayed with the “fire” hose. That was not a fair game, I got soaked.
Read moreI’m beginning another year as president of the Grimes County VFW Post 4006 Auxiliary. It is like any other volunteer job you may have or volunteer for. Mine includes shredding, changing year, planning for holidays, training, working on programs, attending meetings, agendas etc. I have papers, notebooks, copies and books scattered all over the house. And guess who calls to come over, the bug man. That is almost as bad as cleaning before the maid comes.
