WHARTON – Navasota Tennis teams competed in the Wharton Spring Tournament March 7, with several Rattlers competing for top spots.
Eight schools competed in the tournament. Senior Kylie Maxson placed first in girls’ singles. The duo of McKenzie Crawford and Kylie Ritter finished third in girls’ doubles. Avery Seale and John Torres won the consolation bracket in mixed doubles. Julian Jennings was a consolation finalist in boys’ singles and Francisco Herrera reached the quarterfinals in the consolation bracket.
Navasota will host the Navasota Invitational, a 10-team tournament, at Navasota High School March 22.

The Rattlers, 15-4-2 overall and 9-1 in District 20-4A accomplished the feat under new head coach Brian Lopez in his first year. Navasota’s history-making team includes assistant coach Patrick Preston and players: Juan Vargas, Salvador Paz, Javier Cabrera, Adrian Castillo, Joe Olvera, Giovanni Perez, Ricardo Alvarado, Christian Castañeda, Fabian Perez, Rodrigo Hernandez, Luis Cruz, Diego Montecinos, Israel Yanez, Christopher Lopez and Nolan Ruiz.
Navasota will face Houston Washington in the Bi-District Round of the playoffs with the date, time and location TBD.
The Lady Rattlers placed third in District 20-4A with a 3-5 record. Bi-District playoff information is TBD.
