By the time this is published, it will be 2022. I hope everyone had a good and safe New Year’s Eve and ate a bunch of black-eyed peas!

Christmas Eve was the usual for me. I attended the Children’s Program at Salem Lutheran. Susan Brak did an awesome job again. Barbara Courville provided the music and Susan had several mothers who assisted her with the production. Thank you to everyone who helped to provide this program for our members and their extended families.

Christmas Day started the same way. All the Christmas tree lights were on, Christmas music playing and relaxing in my chair. I did have a few things to do to prepare for the family. At approximately 2:45 p.m. family began arriving. The peaceful ambiance was interrupted with the voices of all the children and adults. Sometimes I am glad I can’t hear very well because I am not sure I want to hear everything!

We didn’t exchange White Elephant gifts, but the rest of the events were about the same. I think everyone was pleased with the gifts they took home and the contents of their stockings. I had some very tiny stockings, so I gave the five grands and my two daughters old coins that I found in my mom’s things. Perhaps one day they will be worth something since most of them were over 50 years old. Silver dollars and half dollars were in the stockings. To me, having something like the coins that belonged to a deceased relative is priceless.

When I talk about money in this fashion, I remember my Grandpa Becker. He would periodically mention that he only had one dollar in his pocket. Shoot, it was really a $100 bill that he always carried. Years ago, being a man his age, $100 was a huge amount of money especially if you could just carry it in your pocket. If you think about it, in our world now with prices going up on everything, $100 is a good amount of money to have.

I want to wish a happy belated birthday to Marilyn Mayerhoff, Frances Tinney and Kimberlee Thuem. These ladies are members of the Sonshine Sisters. Hope your day was great!

Three dear friends of mine have been ill for some time and I am asking for prayers for them. These friends are Chad McMillian, Beth McGinty and Mary Fontaine. Thank you.

The VFW Auxiliary has a drop-off station at Discount Cleaners in Navasota for pull tabs and plastic lids. Darlene is a lifetime member of the Auxiliary and will accept these donations. If you could, we would really appreciate your donations for our projects.

The American Legion McCluskey Post 640 in Anderson will be hosting a benefit for veterans and families Saturday, Jan. 22, from noon till 5 p.m. at the K.C. Hall.
