The Charm & Sewing 4H club of Anderson held a Toy Drive and brought their collection to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4006 to share with our toy drive. These young people are making a difference in our county as they continue to do community service projects all year. Speaking as a Post representative, I want to personally thank the leaders for encouraging this group and driving them for their projects.

Last Wednesday was my birthday. Thanks to all the people who called, sent a text, messaged me on Facebook or sent cards. I was treated to steak and baked potato made by my son-in-law, Chuck Lawrence. It was very good! I am so fortunate to have two sons-in-law who are good cooks. There was also the birthday song on my phone at 11:55 p.m. from a very special couple in my life, Chad and Nancy McMillan.

The day extended to Thursday where my bestie Janis Frenzel had a surprise for me. She brought a birthday cake to the VFW Post meeting and Commander Tony Lambert invited everyone to sing happy birthday. I didn’t understand why he called me “Wonder Woman” but that was on my cake. It was not until I read the card that I caught on. The card was referring to the birthday of Wonder Woman. I wonder where my keys are, I wonder what I did with my phone, I wonder why I walked into this room, etc. You get the message, right?  They know me well. Thank you everyone!

I had the privilege of meeting with two members of the Associated French Press as did Chief Vickers, Suzie Vickers, Sarah Vickers and Michael Serres. We were interviewed and photographed with Mayor Charlie at the fire department.  I have no clue when or anything about where this will appear. The Mayor was his usual happy smiling self for the cameras.

I laughed because Chad McMillan, the mayor’s dad, said that Switzerland needed to know who the Queen of Whitehall was. I guess I need to look for the cape for Wonder Woman and a crown for the Queen. I already have the huge wooden spoon for the “Gingi” role!

Our little community is so blessed to have such respectful youth. Cullen Robbins and Clay Oncken dropped by with my FFA order and they are such nice young men. I had to laugh when one said that he was single again. Look out gals, they both are now!

Please include prayers for the family of Wilma Leiber Schultz who passed away last week. Wilma is one of my first cousins from daddy’s side of the family. The service was led by pastor King and he sure gave the congregation things to think about.

The New Year is just around the corner. It sure did sneak up on me. All the activities start over for us. People tend to make those resolutions to better themselves. Me, I am not promising anything! I do know that I will keep on volunteering where and when I can, follow those grandchildren, go to those doctor’s visits (social events) and attend church. I am sending wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous new year to each of you.

The 50/50 Queen of Hearts game will start again in February. Just saying.

Our sick and homebound friends include Sue Kolojaco, Lawrence Lieder, Dorothy Mahaffey, Mary Bauer, Albin Finke, Rosa Finke, Lois Bell, Leon Gorney, Doug Taylor, Garry Wise, Kathy Cave Wells, Glenn Binder, Pauline Kaspar and Alexander Hanna, grandson of Curtis and Darla Kolojaco. Please add these friends to your prayer list.
