Don’t forget to vote this year. Early voting is Oct. 24 - Nov. 4. The locations for the early voting are Grimes County Courthouse and the Navasota Center, from at 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Extended voting hours are Tuesdays only, beginning from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Election Day is Nov. 11 and there are 10 locations in the county for you to vote. As a Grimes County voter, you can vote at any of the 10 locations.

You know there are still good young adults in our community. The other day a young man offered to load my gas can in my vehicle and I sure did appreciate his assistance. I think he lives in the Stoneham area. Thank you again for your help. The WHCVFD had their monthly first Saturday BBQ sandwich sales. The day was good, and we thank everyone who supports our efforts. Personally, I would like to thank all the volunteers who work to make this function happen. We had 19 members, three prospective members and one visitor present at the monthly VFD meeting on Oct. 3. If you are a member of the department, please try to attend some of the monthly meetings to be informed of the goings-on.

The Burn Ban is back for Grimes County. WHCVFD assisted with several controlled burns recently, received 81 response calls for the 2022 fiscal year with six extended responses. Training for the months of November and December will be abbreviated with the holiday season. If you are a firefighter, please stay in touch with the Training Coordinator, Christopher Vickers, to be sure you are available for these trainings.

We missed our Chaplain, Chad McMillan, at the meeting. He had a medical situation that placed him in the hospital. Please keep him in your prayers. Mrs. Anna Springfield passed away this week. Her funeral is scheduled for Saturday morning at the Lynn Grove Methodist Church. Her family could use some prayers also. Chasing a one year old for an entire day is tough for an old lady. He does not like to sleep at his Gingi’s house so that is actually the only time he gets upset with me. I am not sure if his grandparents are happy with our new game. We play sword fight; me with a wooden spoon and him with a spatula. Since he chases me, I thought he might get tired. What was I thinking?

If you have a loved one resting at the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery, would you consider purchasing a wreath from Wreaths Across America in order for us to hopefully have a wreath placed for each veteran. Several of those 38 veterans were responsible for the current building that houses Grimes County VFW Post 4006. A group of them signed a loan to build the building and agreed to repay the loan if the VFW did not make the monies to pay for it. Wreaths cost $15 each. If you are interested, please let me know.

Please add all our sick and homebound friends to your prayer list. These friends include Mary Martin, Leon Gorney, Barbara Gorney, Lois Bell, Jean Fleischhauer, Margaret and Pastor Schultz, Sue Kolojaco, Mary Bauer, Rosa Finke, Marilyn Frenzel, Delores Mitschke, Mary Whatley, Billie Wittenbach, Shawn Welch and Mr. and Mrs. Rimes.

Upcoming Birthdays and Anniversaries: October 11 – Violet Faye Schroeder, Sterling Trullinger; Oct. 12 – Justin Branner, Emily Cotter, James Graham, Russell and Lisa Lahrmann; Oct. 13 – Jason Hicks; Oct. 14 – Amelia Frenzel, Tommy Sloan. Congratulations to each of you!
