loia Food Pantry open Oct. 15

There was a special wedding ceremony Saturday, Oct. 1, for Katie Compian and Michael De-Haven. They were united in marriage at Evergreen Baptist Church by Rev. Jeff Morgan. The bride was escorted by her father, Charlie Wendt. There were other family members in attendance from both sides of the family. A reception was held in Bryan. Join me in wishing them many years of happiness together. Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of David Alton Pyle who passed away Monday, Sept. 26, in Stephenville. He was born Sept. 13, 1927 in Iola, the son of Neal M. and Steele Carnes Pyle. There was a visitation Sept. 30 at a Stephenville funeral home. The service was held in the Concord Cemetery and conducted by Rev. Tim Owens, the pastor of Iola Missionary Baptist Church. He was the last of his brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Pyle. Do remember his loved ones in

your prayers. The Sheffield Family had a reunion at the Keith Community Center Saturday, Oct. 1, with approximately 30 family members attending. There was lots of good food and visiting. It has been a while since they were all together. Their reunion last year was canceled due to coronavirus. It was certainly good to have them with us again. Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 held their monthly meeting Monday, Oct. 3, at their lodge hall in Anderson with good attendance. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all present. A variety of business was discussed and there were several important discussions. Several fundraising items were discussed. The lodge meets the first Monday each month at 6 p.m. All Masons are always invited.

Bedias Masonic Lodge No. 17 held their monthly meeting Tuesday, Oct. 4, with a good number attending. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all. Prior to the meeting, a special ceremony was held. Benny White, who has been a Mason for 50 years, was presented with a certificate and a lapel pin. His wife Mackie was present as well. Also present was Carl Deno Dean, the District Deputy Grand Master of District 29A. He brought a message from the Grand Master of Texas. Iola Food Pantry will be open Saturday, Oct. 15, at Iola Missionary Church Fellowship Hall from 9 – 11 a.m. Anyone needing a helping hand are invited to come by for assistance. The pantry is open the day before at noon to set up the pantry. Any assistance is welcome either day. Come by and assist your friends and neighbors.

Happy anniversary this week to Mike and Susie Cohen, married Oct. 11, 1985; Thomas Eugene Ted and Sammye Sexton Davis, married Oct. 11, 1969. Join me in wishing them many more years of happiness together.
