There was a dedication ceremony Wednesday, Feb. 15, for the new historical marker commemorating the location of the original Plantersville High School built in 1912. Classes were held there until 1942. It was demolished in 1951. The foundation, located behind Plantersville Town Hall, remains. Thank you, Marilyn Bettes for leading the entire project and making it all possible. 

 

Gardening 101 is March 4, from 9 a.m. until noon at Navasota Tractor Supply. The Grimes County Master Gardeners will be there to answer all your gardening questions.

 

Save the date for the 11th Annual Plantersville Crawfish Festival and Cook-Off Saturday, April 29, at 11:30 a.m.

 

Applications for 2023 MidSouth Electric Scholarships are now open. Graduating high school seniors planning to attend college, university, trade or technical school may apply for a $1,000 scholarship. Parents or legal guardians must be a member of MidSouth Electric Co-op and applications must be submitted by March 30.

 

February is Black History Month! Did you wake up and have to brush your hair today? Lyda Newman was a remarkable female inventor who patented the first hairbrush with synthetic bristles. She is the third Black woman to ever receive a patent. She used synthetic fibers which were more durable and easier to clean. Newman received a patent for her invention on Nov. 15, 1898.

A photography project discussion will be held Feb. 27, at the Navasota Annex Building beginning at 6 p.m. Grimes County Round up is Feb. 24, at 6 p.m. and Feb. 25, at the Grimes County Fairgrounds beginning at 9 a.m., Registration deadline is Feb. 21. 

The FD and Georgia Calhoun Scholarship Program is Feb. 25, at 5 p.m. at Yarbrough Chapel United Methodist Church, 7892 FM 2819 in Anderson.
