It’s that time of the year when families are gathering for the holidays, organizations and businesses are hosting holiday parties and the times are busy! It always seems so many fatalities happen during this season. Please don’t drink and drive as you leave these gatherings, and please don’t text while driving. Pay attention on the roads and always watch out for the other guy.

Barbara (Bobbie) Lamb, an ex-resident of Anderson who lived in the house with her late husband Bill next door to us on FM 244, passed away Monday, Dec. 5 in Norman, Oklahoma. Bobbie, age 92, was loved by many here as she was active in various organizations. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023 at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church in Norman, OK. Memorial donations can be made to the Grimes County Senior Center in Bobbie’s name.

On Monday, Dec. 5, retired game warden Robert Lys, husband of Bessie Ann of Navasota, also passed away at the age of 91. Everyone that knew Robert loved him. He was a special man known for his generosity and hospitality. Way back in the day, he would stop by and visit my dad Frank Hoffart at our grocery store in Dobbin while making his game warden rounds in the area. When we closed our business in June of 2007, Robert attended our closing party which meant a lot to all our family. He will be so missed by so many.

Monday, Dec. 5 was also the fateful day for Leticia Bonilla of Anderson who was killed in a car accident at the age of 63. Visitation for Mrs. Bonilla, better known as the “tamale lady,” will be held Thursday, Dec. 15 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Iglesia Pentecostal Unida in Huntsville.  The funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m. at Iglesia Pentecostal Unida. Interment will follow in Preston Cemetery in Anderson. Our thoughts and prayers are with this sweet family.
