Keith Civic Club meeting May 25

The monthly food pantry at Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall will be open Saturday, May 20, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Anyone in need of a helping hand, are invited to attended. Volunteers are needed the day before around noon to help set up the pantry.

Baccalaureate service for Iola High School students is Wednesday, May 24, at Cross Baptist Church beginning at 6 p.m. Many Iola churches will dismiss their service for this event. Graduation is Saturday, May 27, at 10 a.m. in the Iola High School Gym.

There will be a taco stack up lunch and silent auction at Evergreen Baptist Church Sunday, May 21, following the morning worship service. The money raised will help preteens of the church attend church camp this summer. Everyone is invited to attend.

Keith Civic Club will hold their monthly meeting at Keith Community Center Thursday, May 25, at 6:30 p.m. All are invited to attend. Come visit with your neighbors, friends and family members.

A graveside funeral was held in Zion Cemetery Sunday, May 7, for Melba Boney Wells who was born Jan. 31, 1938 and died Oct. 15, 2022. She was the daughter of William and Susan Boney and grew up in the Iola area. Her father owned Boney Bank and Boney’s Store which later became Mallet’s Stores and later the Rocking Chair Store. Prior to the funeral the family had a meal in the former Boney Store. The funeral was under direction of Lindley Robertson Holt Funeral Home of Navasota. Officiating was Rev. C. Mc-Callister ‘Mac” Vaughn. Do remember all her family and loved ones in your prayers.

Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Joyce Dudley Rice who passed April 29, at age 96. She was born Feb. 20, 1927, the daughter of John Texas Dudley and wife, Zula Dudley. She was married to Rhodes Edwin Rice by whom she had three children. Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, her daughter Glenda Fling and other family members. She was a member of Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church in Bryan where her service was held. Her pastor, Rev. Doug Dickey was in charge of the service. Burial was in Martins Prairie Cemetery. She was buried by her husband who died in 1973. Do remember her loved ones in your prayers.

Another death in the area is David Moore who passed away Sunday, May 7. His funeral arrangements will be in next week’s paper. Death was at his home in Carlos. Do remember his wife and other family members in your prayers.
