Keith Civic Club meeting Sept. 22

Funeral services for our friend, Gordon Roscoe Coneley, were held at Martins Prairie Missionary Baptist Church Sunday, Sept. 11, with a full house of family members and friends present. He was born Oct. 11, 1949, the son of Carroll Clayton and Mayme Griffin Coneley. He passed away Sept. 7, at the age of 72. There were several songs sung and a bible reading as well. The message was brought by Brother Glenn Connor. There was a song sung by the congregation as well. Following the service, burial in Martins Prairie Cemetery, and a lunch was served in the church fellowship hall. He is survived by his wife Brenda Coneley, two children and their spouses, James Brandon and sister Ann Dean Grinnell and husband Josh, several grandchildren, a sister, a brother and other family members. Do remember all of them in your prayers.

I am sure everyone remembered Sunday was the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. The day will be remembered in our country forever. Let us never forget.

There was a service in Evergreen Cemetery Saturday, Sept. 10, and the ashes of Margie Jane Morrell and her daughter, Elaine Stafford were buried. Mary Jane was born Jan. 20, 1930 and died June 15, 2022. Her daughter passed away Aug. 2015. May their memories be forever blessed. A monument was erected the day before. Margie Jane was the daughter of James and Viola “Ola” Bennett Crenshaw.

A monument was recently erected in Evergreen Cemetery for Catherine Louise Stewart Doty. She was born Nov. 27, 1946 and died April 12, 2021. She was the daughter of Calvin and Mavis Stewart and the wife of Bill Doty. May all these people be forever blessed.

There will be a community- wide gathering for a night of worship Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Iola Football Field from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. Pizza and drinks will be provided. The speaker will be Jon Groves and Band Reeves will lead worship. Invite your family, friends and neighbors. If there is inclement weather, the gathering will be moved to the elementary gym. Make plans to attend.

The annual Iola Hay Day celebration is Saturday, Oct. 22. There will be a parade down Main Street. There will also be all-sorts of booths with good things. Make plans to come out and enjoy the fun.

The Keith Civic Club monthly meeting will be held at the Keith Community Center Thursday, Sept. 22. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m., followed by the meeting. Make plans to come out and visit with your family members and friends. Hope to see you there.

Do hope your special day was a happy one. Happy anniversary this wekk to the following: Jack and Gail Jernigan, married Sept. 22, 1960; Chris and Mariah Evans Barnett, married Sept. 21, 2012.
