lola Food Pantry open June 17

Well folks it’s once again time for area Vacation Bible Schools. Iola Missionary Baptist Church will host VBS June 18-22 beginning at 6 p.m. The following week, June 25-29, Cross Baptist Church will host VBS beginning at 6 p.m. Evergreen Baptist Church VBS is July 16-19 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Do hope all kids will make plans to attend.

There was a good turnout of workers at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Carlos recently. Lots of good workers helped and a good amount of work was accomplished. Thanks to all that participated in any way.

Iola Food Pantry in the Iola Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall will be open Saturday, June 17, from 9-11 a.m. Anyone in need of a helping hand are invited to come out for assistance. The pantry is open every third Saturday of the month. Anyone available to assist with setup are invited to come to the fellowship hall Friday at noon.

Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Matthew Leighton Davis who passed away Saturday, May 14. He was not known by many in the area but was the grandson of Ted and Sammie Davis and Paula Davis Fisher. He’s also the son of Stephen Davis. Do remember his loved ones in your prayers.

Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No 17 held their monthly meeting at their lodge hall in Anderson Monday, June 5. The meeting began with a covered dish meal and followed by the business meeting. The names of two Anderson-Shiro High School students that received scholarships were read. They are Jacob Borski and Avery Hulsman. They each received a check from the lodge. The election of officers was also held. Worshipful Master is B.J. Moody, Senior Warden James Maddux, Junior Warden Cory Tatum, Treasurer Daniel Evans, Secretary David Rice and Tiler Ryan Rutledge. They will be installed at the July meeting.

Alan and Tammy Sanford spent several days in New York visiting their son William who has been in the Navy. He is now out and doing well. Hope they had a wonderful time.

The Grimes County Fair is going well. Several of the area churches dismissed their Wednesday night services due to the fair.

Bedias Masonic Lodge No 651 held their monthly meeting with a good number of members and visitors in attendance. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all. An election was held during the meeting. Those elected include Worshipful Master Randall Smallwood, Senior Warden James Bracewell, Junior Warden Mike Ellis, Secretary Walter Larry Smith and Treasurer Walter W. Rogers. The current Worshipful Master presented roses to the ladies. The following students were presented scholarships: Asia Jordan, Haven Boullion, Scott McDougald and Sophia Willis. Do hope your special day was a happy one.
