More graves leveled in Martin’s Prairie Cemetery

Upcoming events in the community include the monthly meeting of the Keith Civic Club at the Keith Community Center Thursday, Oct.

24. The meeting will begin with a covered dish meal at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by the regular meeting. All are invited to attend.

Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Tommy D. Cook who passed away Oct. 8 in College Station. He was born Sept. 10, 1940, the son of Virgil S. and Merle Byers Cook both of whom are buried in Martin’s Prairie Cemetery. His funeral was held at the Trevino Smith Funeral Home with his pastor, Bro. Joe D. Saffle of Carlos Missionary Baptist Church officiating. He was buried in the Martin’s Prairie Cemetery. A group of servicemen assisted with the graveside service. He was preceded in death by his wife who died several years ago. Do remember his family in your prayers.

College Station Monument Company was back in the community at the Martin’s Prairie Cemetery to relevel several of the tombstones both old and new. Among the monuments were Mary Ivean Horton 1877-1882, Willie E. Owens 1876-1958, Ophelia M. Owens 1882-1970, John Franklin Owens 1885-1972, M.E. Jones wife of H.C. Jones 1861-1883, Thomas Weaver Jones son of H.C. Jones 1893-1894, P.B. Stuckey 1875-1880, Lottie Pinkerd 1893-1985, Lloyd P. Harrison 1908-1977, Leafy W. Harrison 1914-1997, Isa Isbell 1866-1939, C.E. Isbell 1860-1947 and Little Vernon Pyle 1915-1917. May their memories and all the others be forever blessed.

The ashes of two brothers were buried in the Martin’s Prairie Cemetery Saturday, Oct. 12. They were Daniel A. Stewart 1955-2001 and Gafford Stewart 1950-2019. They were sons of Noogie and Mina Stewart and the ashes were buried in their graves. May their memories be forever blessed. Do remember their loved ones in your prayers.

Anyone with ties to the Concord Cemetery between Iola and Bedias are invited to their annual cemetery association meeting Saturday, Oct.

26. The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. Do make plans to come out and help support the cemetery and remember those who are buried there. The cemetery dates to the burial of Elie R. Isbell who died Oct. 22, 1987.

The membership of Io-la-North Zulch No 458 will have their monthly meeting at the Pyramid Masonic Lodge No 593 in North Zulch Monday, Oct. 28. The meeting will begin with a meal at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by their meeting at 7:30 p.m. All members of the Eastern Star are invited to attend.

All are invited to attend the Fall Fest at Evergreen Baptist Church Wednesday, Oct. 30, beginning at 6:30 p.m. All sorts of fun things will take place. Do come out and enjoy the fun.
