One of my favorite events of the year is Twilight Firelight at Fanthorp Inn which always happens on the Saturday evening after Thanksgiving. This year it is Saturday, Nov. 26 from 6-9 p.m. at the Inn located at 579 S. Main St. Activities begin at the Grimes County Courthouse where you can board the stagecoach or wagon for a ride down Main Street to the Inn. Once there, you will step into the 1850s as the soft glow of candle flickers in the parlor window and the sound of fiddle fills the air. Wa-la, the atmosphere will bring this holiday season to life.

For more info, contact Chandler Wahrmund, chandler.wahrmund@thc.texas.gov. There is no admission fee but a cash donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students (12 and under) is suggested. Tickets will be available starting at 5:30 p.m. near the Courthouse parking area where the stagecoach and/or wagon rides to the Inn will begin. Please dress appropriately for the season and be prepared for the weather as the event will take place in a period setting with some portions outdoors. Attendees will be able to visit the first floor of the Inn as well as the barn and restrooms.

The inaugural Sheriff Don Sowell Classic Car Show is Sunday, Nov. 27 from 12-3 p.m. on Main St. in front of the courthouse. Pass the word. Entry fee is $25 per vehicle with registration onsite the day of the show. The show is free to the public and proceeds will benefit the Grimes County True Blue Foundation. Categories will include: Best of Show, Best Paint, Best Interior, Best Original, Best Car, Best Truck, Best Patina, Best Rat Rod, Best Unique and Don’s Choice. For more information, contact Charlie Diggs, Charlie@charliediggs.com.
