Special speaker at Navasota Junior High

Monday morning sure came quick, and the weather is not supposed to be that great either.  Hey, we just take one day at a time because the way I see it, 2023 will be here before we realize it.

Since I was invited to the Veterans Day program at Navasota Jr High, I decided to go, and I am glad I did. Master Gunnery Sergeant Matthew Lockwood, career Marine, was the guest speaker.  He will be retiring in Dec. and his speech made me aware of just how few military members we have protecting our country. Lockwood was introduced by Master Ben Mendez, Karate Instructor. They grew up together and some of their games led one to the military and another to another route of protection. As the branch songs were played, I loved the Marine “oorah” battle cry from Mr. Martinez. Most people know the Marine Corps is my favorite!

On Sunday, Salem Lutheran Ladies Circle hosted the annual Thanksgiving luncheon. As usual, there was so much great food. I think everyone had a good time.

Later that day there was a knock at my door, and I had no clue who the person was, but I sure was glad he came. He was an agent from one of my insurance companies. His family is from Columbia and he moved back to the U.S. when he was only 15, by himself. He played soccer, as was the plan, for 11 years. After his mom had cancer, he decided to try the insurance route for his vocation. I really appreciate all the work he did to update my plans and explain more options to me.

It pleases me to announce the Sonshine Sisters dominoe game was a huge success. I think we all left with sore face muscles from all the laughing. Everyone agrees we truly enjoy our special time together.

Grimes County VFW Post 4006 and Auxiliary met for their monthly meeting Thursday and the Post provided a Thanksgiving meal. It sure was good!
