Veterans honored on Memorial Day

The big news this week is Iola High School graduation that took place May 27, in the gym with a full crowd seniors and others. There were 35 seniors present who definitely had a good time. A few days before, a baccalaureate service was held at Cross Baptist Church with 22 seniors present as well. Bibles were given to each graduate and refreshments were served at the service.

American flags were placed on the graves of veterans in both the Evergreen and Martins Prairie Cemetery in honor of Memorial Day. There are around 100 graves in the cemeteries. May their memories be forever blessed. Many of the veterans still have family members living in the community.

Since Grimes County Fair is happening, Evergreen Baptist Church will not have service Wednesday, June 7. Service will resume the following week. Evergreen Baptist will also not have Wednesday night meals until school begins again in August.

Guess the kids are happy to be out of school for summer. Not sure who is happier, the parents or the kids. Pray for all of them this summer.

Keith Civic Club held their monthly meeting May 25, at Keith Community Center with a fair number of members and visitors in attendance. The covered dish meal was enjoyed by all. Work that needs to be done on the outside and inside of the building was discussed and will be done soon.

Church camp is coming up. Hope the kids have already signed up for those activities. There will be two camps, both at Piney Woods. Pray the kids will be safe and secure.

Congratulations to James and Hillary Trant Baker on the birth of their third son, Tatum Trant Baker, born Sunday, May 21. He is welcomed home by his two brothers. Grandparents are James Ray and Cynthia Lewis Trant. God bless all of them.

There was a farmer’s market at Iola Community Center Sunday, May 28, with large attendance. This is the second time there has been a farmer’s market. Hope all went well for both the merchants and the buyers.

Happy anniversary this week to Dr. Philip and Janice Finley Bryan, married June 9, 1961; Mike and Sue Ellis, married June 6, 1981; Buddy and Pam Bushman, married June 6, 1981; Cody and Janet Grimes Crenshaw, married June 6, 2019; Don Hollie and D’Lynn Dawn Shaw Creamer, married June 10, 1995.
