Friday night, I had the opportunity to give the last of the Janice Trant ScholarshipAwards to Bailey Rhodes of Richards High School. Thanks to all the donations to the Grimes County VFW Post 4006 Auxiliary, we were able to give one scholarship last year and four this year - one to each county school. The Auxiliary appreciates all the generosity in Janice’s honor.

The big “Georgia Mae” cake made it to Connor Hughson’s graduation party in Caldwell. It was a very nice party and I know Connor will do great at TAMU. Connor is the grandson of Art and Barbara Courville. Congratulations again!

Food supplies at the Christian Food Pantry have been lower this year than is normal. Director, Pat Gaston welcomes community or church donations during regular pantry hours Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon. Food items most needed include peanut butter and jelly, canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soup, canned chili, spaghetti noodles and sauce, macaroni and cheese, tuna and hamburger helper, instant mashed potatoes, beans, rice; breakfast cereal, evaporated or powdered milk and cornbread mix. Monetary donations are also welcome.

Flag Day, June 14, will be recognized at Grimes County VFW Post 4006 from 6 – 8 p.m. Please come and see how tattered, no longer used flags are properly retired and broaden your knowledge about your duties as a US citizen.

Grimes Health Resource Center opened a community clothes closet at the resource center. This is a place you can donate clothes and shoes. The clothes closet is open Monday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located in the Grimes St. Joseph Hospital.
