Anderson VFD BBQ Cookoff this weekend

Winner number five of the 2nd Annual St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 52-week gun raffle was drawn Sunday, Sept. 26. The winner of a Walter PK380 Silver/Blue is Mark Hahn. The next drawing will take place Sunday, Oct. 3.

The Anderson VFD will host an IBCA Championship BBQ Cook-Off at the Grimes County Expo Center Oct. 1 and Oct. 2. On Friday evening, Oct. 1, the Risky Liver Band will provide good country music for dancing from 8:30 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. Cost to get into the dance will be $10. Tasting judges for Saturday, Oct. 2 are greatly needed. The Plantersville Town Hall building was erected in 1915 and recently underwent a complete renovation consisting of an expansion, cosmetic improvements and ADA required upgrades. The Town Hall board members are planning a big day Saturday, Oct. 2 from 2-7 p.m. The Navasota/Grimes County Chamber will begin the event with a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. This event will consist of live music throughout the afternoon, silent auction 2-4 p.m., live auction at 5:45 p.m., raffle, concession stand with snacks and beverages, serving of a barbecue chicken plate for $12 beginning at 5 p.m., 50/50, lottery hat and much more. Hey all you Jeep lovers out there, there will be a “Jeep Meetup” at Yankee’s Tavern & Grill, 10328 FM 244 in Carlos Sunday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m. All Jeeps are invited no matter what age or model. JM Jeeps will be showcasing CJ7’s. This event will give you a chance to meet other Jeeps in the area and is hosted by Jeeps of Huntsville, JM Jeeps and Yankee’s. The Anderson Food Pantry will be open Thursday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. until noon. The pantry is located at 367 Fanthorp St. All residents of Grimes County in need of food are eligible to participate. For more information contact Renee Fredwood, 936- 873-5005 or check out their Facebook page.

Recently, the St. Stanislaus Altar Society held election of officers. Delores Posinski will remain as President; Linda Toler will serve as Vice President; Lorraine Weaver was elected to the Secretary position; and Kathy Adamo will serve as the Treasurer. This organization will meet again Thursday, Oct. 7, in the parish rectory at 6 p.m.

Mark your calendar for the upcoming annual St. Stanislaus Bazaar on the parish grounds in Anderson Sunday, Oct. 10 beginning at 11 a.m.

Anderson will be hosting their annual Trunk or Treat on Main St. Oct. 30 from 6-8 p.m. So, get those costumes in the works – it will be here before you know it.
