It is so hot outside. I’m really appreciative I don’t have to work out there. I wait until around 6:30 p.m. to start watering until after dark. Some days I have a chance to water in the morning. When you walk across the yard you hear snap, crackle and crunch as you watch for cracks.

Saturday was the District VFW meeting in Katy, so I missed the BBQ sandwich fundraiser at the fire department. The four of us who attended the meeting had fun and learned new things. Our commander and senior vice commander kept us laughing during the meal when we could sit together. It was a fun day.

WHCVFD met for their business meeting Monday. There were 16 members present, one visitor and one prospective member. I encourage community members to attend meetings. You can ask questions, meet the members and see what is going on. Our next meeting is Monday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the station.

Tuesday was bingo at Grimes County VFW Post 4006. There were 50 people present, not counting some of the members who were working and people in the game room. It is great to see community members enjoying the game and food. General Patton was there, and he made sure to come and check on me.Actually, he scared me. Have you ever had a great Dane PTSD dog breathe in your ear? He is the size of a pony but very gentle.

Wednesday was Salem Ladies Circle monthly meeting which follows a Bible class led by Pastor Christians. The classes he offers are not just for the members of the church, everyone is welcome. Tuesday at 9 a.m. is the Theology class and Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. is the additional class. There is also a Bible study at 9 a.m. on Sundays followed by the Sunday service at 10 a.m.

Union Grove Baptist Church is located on FM 362 offering many events for members and visitors. Lynn Grove UMC is another option for worship in our area. If you attend another church and want to include their information in my column, please get with me.

Please add our sick and homebound friends to your prayer list. These friends include Charlotte Serres, Frank Surovik, III, Lois Bell, Jean Fleischhauer, Sue Kolojaco, Mary Bauer, Rosa Finke, Mary Whatley, Billie Wittenbach, Suzie Rimes, Alexander Hanna, Troy Weigand, Shawn Welch, Delores Mitschke, Glenn Binder, Joanne Floyd, Von Herring and Betty Feldmann.
