This week has gone by fast. Maybe the older I get, the faster the days go by. The Sonshine Sisters had seven members present including Mrs. Pauline and Margie who missed several times due to medical reasons. Sandra Lazrine was Aunt Pauline’s driver and Mrs. Beth stopped by prior to her appointment. It was a blessed day with lots of laughs, eye rolling and several “smart” comments. It was relaxing, and we all love picking on each other without anyone getting their feelings hurt. I look forward to the third Thursday not just for playing dominoes but the fellowship that accompanies it.

Ash Wednesday is coming soon. Salem Lutheran will hold Ash Wednesday services. There will be a soup supper prior to the service, at 6:30 p.m. followed by the worship service at 7:30 p.m. This is a good time for food and fellowship. You don’t have to be a member of the church to come. Usually a freewill donation jar is available. Feel free to come join us.

Union Grove Baptist Church, 15301 FM 362 in White Hall, will host a gardening seminar Saturday, Feb. 26, called Gardens of Faithfulness. Taught by Texas A&M agriculture graduate Samuel Robinson, the program uses observations of creation and biblical principles of growth to teach methods for growing food that conserve water, improve soils, utilize crop rotation, and reduce weeding. Farming God’s Way was developed to meet the food production needs of people in poorer areas of the world where expensive equipment and ideal growing conditions are often unavailable. This week’s seminar will teach techniques that are applicable for any size garden or farm. Robinson has travelled to Nicaragua to teach and help implement improved farming methods and has taught many people here in the US as well.

This free class meets from 10 am to 2 pm and includes a slide presentation, an outside demonstration of planting and garden care in the church’s garden, and lunch. Menu will be black-eyed peas with ham, roasted sweet potatoes, salad, deviled eggs, dessert and drinks. Please rsvp to srrobinson44@gmail.com if possible. Lunch is free, but donations gratefully accepted. Classes are every other Saturday through March.

Union Grove Baptist Church holds services each Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m. Pastor Faber McMullen is teaching through the Old Testament book of Judges. Wednesday evening services begin with a church-wide meal in the fellowship hall, followed by a short worship and teaching. The food is good, the fellowship is friendly, and the teaching and discussion are always lively. Please come visit, we would love to meet you!

The Salem Lutheran Fish Fry is March 11, from 5:30 till 7:30 p.m. at the White Hall Community Center. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door, in advance from church members or at the White Hall Store. Dine-in or carry out available.
