The Anderson Food Pantry will be open Thursday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. till noon and later in the day from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. All residents of Grimes County may participate.

November is always when we honor our Veterans, well actually we honor them all the time. Our annual Veterans Day parade in Navasota is Saturday, Nov. 9, beginning at 10:30 a.m. I can remember the days when the streets were lined with children and adults proudly waving their American flags. It has saddened me to say that in the last several years a sparse amount of people come out to honor our veterans as compared to days gone by. Please try to come out and bring your children or grandchildren and explain to them what Veterans Day is about.

Each year St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville hosts “Surviving the Holidays” as part of their GriefShare program. No matter how long it’s been since your loved one died, grief can make the holidays a painful time, but there’s hope. Join in and bring a friend for an encouraging seminar that will help you survive the holidays and discover new reasons to enjoy them again. This free one-day event is set for Saturday, Nov. 9, from 3 p.m. till 5 p.m. at the Family Life Center on the church grounds. You do not have to be Catholic to participate. This will be the best two hours you will spend. For more information or to register, call Gail at the church office, 936-894-2223.

Anderson is always all about the community and here’s another event you won’t want to miss. The Anderson Volunteer Fire Department, along with Charlie Diggs, is hosting an Anderson Community Movie Night Saturday, Nov. 16, at the fire department. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. There will be two movies and the first movie will start at 6 p.m. Movies will be announced on the Anderson community events Facebook page. Hot dogs, popcorn and drinks will be available, and the best part is it is all free. The movies will be shown inside the fire station so bring your chair and maybe a blanket too. For more information, call Michael Kimich at 936-870-8776.
