Lady Panthers earn first place

The Lady Panthers Volleyball team won the Navasota Freshman Tournament hosted by NISD. The team consisting of a mixture of 12 junior high to senior aged players, played hard throughout the tournament. Prior to the NISD Freshman tournament, the Lady Panthers competed at NISD in the varsity tournament, bringing home second place in the silver bracket. The ladies will compete again in the Navasota Junior High Tournament Saturday, Sept. 25.

National Voter Registration in Grimes County kicks off this week, with events begin held all throughout the County. The event focuses the effort of election departments across the United States, registering and updating voter registration information. Yearly voter registration efforts are made to allow more Americans easy access to update or register for the first time. This week will mark the first ever weeklong celebration and registration event held by Grimes County.

Currently Grimes County boasts over 18,000 voter registrations, with a goal to reach and maintain 20,000 registered voters within the next two years. The weeklong event will have voter registration tables from noon to 7 p.m. on Sept. 22, at Bedias Civic Club, Sept. 23 at the Grimes County Chamber Business Expo, Sept. 28, at Todd Mission City Hall and at the Grimes County Courthouse all week from 8 a.m. till 4:30 p.m. All you need to check your voter registration is your ID. Staff will have Poll Pads ready to check and assist with any changes.

Richards Fire Department hosted their first practice run with Med 12 Air Lift on Saturday, Sept. 18. The group recently built access for medic set up and response, as well as completed upgrades to the outside RVFD facilities for life flight transport access to land and stage response areas. The practice run on Saturday allowed the community to see the RVFD in action as well as experience the skill of the medic staff on board a life-flight.

Wednesday, Sept. 22 is National Day of Prayer. Richards ISD will mark the event with a gathering at 7:30 a.m. Following this event RISD will also host their first open house of the school year on Thursday Sept. 23, from 5:30 p.m. till 7:30 p.m.
