Feb. 27-March 2

•The 2019 used book sale will be held Feb. 27 through March 2 at the Washington County Fairgrounds, 1305 E. Blue Bell Road in Brenham. The fairgrounds are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The admission fee is $10 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and $1 after 1 p.m. There is free parking and no entry fee for children. There will be more than 95,000 items for sale. The event is sponsored by The Fortnightly Club and benefits the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library.

•Tickets for the Navasota High School prom scheduled for April are on sale in the NHS Library until April

•The Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce awards banquet will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Camp Allen with the theme “Let’s fiesta!”

•The Grimes Health Resource Center is hosting A Matter of Balance from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Progressive Center, 615 W. Virginia St. in Navasota.

• The Bedias Women’s Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Bedias Civic Center.

March 1

•Plantersville Town Hall will hold their annual Raffle and Fish Fry beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, March 1, with a catfish dinner for $10 per plate. There will also be a live auction. The event will take place at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Plantersville.

March 2

•There will be a free gardening seminar at Martha’s Bloomers at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, in the Arbor Room. The seminar will introduce “The Neu-Coir Advantage” – A 100 percent natural by-product that is wonderful for all your seed starting and potting soil mixes.

March 6

•The Navasota Garden Club will “Step Back in Time at Washington on the Brazos Barrington Farm & the Pollinator Garden” Wednesday, March 6. Interested participants are asked to dress casually and meet at 9:15 a.m. in the First Baptist Church Navasota parking lot to carpool to Old Washington.

•The Grimes Health Resource Center will sponsor a senior health and activity day Wednesday, March 6, in Plantersville.

March 7

•The Grimes Health Resource Center is hosting A Matter of Balance from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Progressive Center, 615 W. Virginia St. in Navasota.

•The Muddy Waters Book Store will hold a Happy Hour with Books and Chairs at 6 p.m. March 7. It’s also a chance to meet the Democratic Precinct Chair. Muddy Waters Book Store is located at 120 E. Washington Ave. in Navasota.

March 8-9

•The sixth annual Iola VFD Benefit and Barbecue Cook-off will be held March 8-9 at the Iola Volunteer Fire Department, 23574 Brazos St. For additional information or for enrollment, email or follow the event on Facebook at Iola VFD Cook-Off Fundraiser.

•The Navasota Garden Club’s annual scholarship fundraiser will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at 400 N. LaSalle in Navasota. There will be baked goods, a yard sale, crafts and more.

March 23

•Learn how to produce your own honey and help save the bees by attending the Central Texas Beginning Beekeepers School Saturday, March 23, in Brenham. The cost is $65 for the first adult and $60 for additional adults in the family. Students, including college age, are $25, while children under 12 are $10. •The Navasota Garden Club invites visitors to attend a presentation “Forget me not … Fun with Flowers” beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the First Presbyterian Church fellowship hall.

April 7

•The 42nd Plantersville-Stoneham Volunteer Fire Department Bazaar and BBQ will be held April 7. Barbeque dinner will start at 11 a.m. Tickets for raffles are $5 each or 5 for $20.

May 1

•The Navasota Garden Club and Music Study Club of Navasota will host a joint meeting beginning at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at First Baptist Church Navasota. The Garden Club will have installation of officers at 9:30 a.m. Garden club members are to bring salads and the music study club members will bring desserts. Visitors are welcome.

May 4

•The city of Plantersville while a regular election Saturday, May 4, for election of city officer of mayor and five aldermen. Ballot submissions must be received by the temporary city secretary between Jan. 16 and Feb. 15. For more information, contact Cindi Olivieri at 936-873-3102.

First Wednesday

•The Whitehall Community Volunteer Fire Department will hold their barbecue sandwich fundraiser beginning at 11 a.m. the first Saturday of each month. The event is held in conjunction with the Texas Pickers Antiques market that runs from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Whitehall.

Second Tuesday

•The Richards Township Association holds their monthly meetings at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Richards Fire Department.

•The Grimes County Democrats meet at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Progressive Outreach Center located at 615 W. Virginia St. in Navasota.

•American Legion Mc-Cluskey Post 640 meets at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at 102 Hill St. in Anderson.

Second Saturday

•The Grimes County Amateur Radio Group will meet at 10 a.m. the second Saturday of each month at Navasota Fire Department, 1500 LaSalle in Navasota. The club is open to all ages. Third Friday

•State Representative District 13 Ben Leman will have mobile office hours from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. the third Friday of each month in Anderson. The office will be open in the Commissioner’s Courtroom in the courthouse annex at 114 W. Buffington Ave. in Anderson.
