Early voting ongoing for May 4, elections

May 4, is the city of Plantersville election for mayor and five aldermen. Early elections started Monday and Tuesday. Other early voting dates are April 24 through April 26, and April 30, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Anderson-Shiro Consolidated Elementary, 458 FM 149 West in Anderson. I’m wishing all the candidates the best of luck.

There is an ongoing book drive ending May 31. The Matthew’s family and the Charm and Sewing 4-H Club are collecting new or slightly used books to donate to local hospitals. Books may be dropped off at Grimes County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Center, 203 Veterans Memorial Drive, Navasota. Email francis.henderson@bryanisd.org or call 936-873-3907 for more information.

The “Heroes Care Package Drive” is ongoing through May 4. The Charm and Sewing 4-H Club and Kierra Lee are collecting individual toiletry and personal items to assist the military troops. Bibles, books, cards, crosswords, magazines, pens, deodorant, nail clippers, Gatorade and candy are some of the items being collected. • St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in Magnolia on FM 149 and 1488 is inviting everyone out to their Women’s Conference Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Women’s Day program is Sunday, April 28, at 3 p.m.

• The church is looking for participants for “The Old Ship of Zion” play Saturday, June 8, at 7 p.m. Examples of available parts are blind man, foolish virgins, wise virgins and the prodigal son. Deepest sympathy to Bertha Mae Utley Smith’s family on their loss. Prayers for all who were affected by the tornado that hit Franklin and Calvert.
