Fish fry fundraiser April 13

Area residents are reminded of the upcoming fundraiser Saturday, April 13, at the Iola Volunteer Fire Department. The meal, beginning at 11 a.m., will be fried fish with all the trimmings. There will also be an auction of a variety of items including cakes, pies, guns and more items that come with such auctions. Do make plans to attend. Remember the fire department, so that they can remember you when you are in need of their service.

•The monthly meeting of the Keith Civic Club was held Thursday, March 28, at the Keith Community Center with a small number in attendance. The club made plans a bake sale beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Gibbons Creek Shell gas station. The funds will help the club meet their expenses. Do make plans to attend.

•Area residents were sorry to learn of the death of Charles Edwin “Bo” Beene, of Huntsville, who passed away Saturday, March 30. He was born Aug. 4, 1939, in the Keith community and was the son of Charles and Ida Eddie Beene, and the stepson of Donald Hicks. His funeral service was held in Huntsville, Wednesday, April 3. Burial was in the Martins Prairie Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Betty Beene, and a variety of family members; do remember them in your prayers.

•The monthly meeting of the Orphans Friend Masonic Lodge No. 17 was held with a good number of members and visitors in attendance. During the business meeting, the District Deputy Grand Master of the 29B Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of Texas, Leo Lowe, made his official visit with all enjoying his message.

•There will be a gospel singing at the 6 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Carlos Missionary Baptist Church. All those who love good singing are invited to attend. Following the singing, there will be time of fellowship over a covered dish meal. Do make plans to attend.

•There will be an Easter egg hunt Sunday, April 14, at the Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church, following the service at 11 a.m. and a meal. All are invited to attend all events.

•There will be a sunrise Easter service beginning at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Zion Cemetery in Iola. Following the service, there will be a breakfast served at the Iola Missionary Baptist Church. Do hope that all good Christians will make an effort to attend.

•Happy birthday this week to the following: Linda Dudley, April 7; Willie Marion Snook, Tony Compian Sr., the Rev. Merrill Bailey, Mason Trant House and Manuel Simmons, April 8; Janie Compian, Jada Lynn Barnet and Howard Kenneth Jones Jr., April 10; Virginia Ann Thomas, April 11; and Wendy Kurz Mills, Ron Parson and Marila Kerley, April 13. Do hope that your special day was a happy one.

•Happy anniversary this week to Lance Douglas and Tammye Layne Gonce Anderson, married April 7, 2001. Do join me in wishing them many more years of happiness together.
