First Monday

• The Grimes County Republican Party meets at 7 p.m. the first Monday of each month at the Anderson Community Center, 415 Hill St in Anderson.

Second Tuesday

• The Grimes County Democrats meet at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Progressive Outreach Center located at 615 W. Virginia St. in Navasota.

• The Grimes County Amateur Radio Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Navasota Center, 101 Stadium Drive, in Navasota. The club is open to all ages. • The Richards Township Association holds their monthly meetings at 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the Richards Fire Department

March 11

• The Rio Brazos Audubon Society invites the public to their fire monthly program, on Wednesday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History, 3232 Briarcrest Road in Bryan. This month’s program is “Birding from a Backpack: Birds and Conservation Across South Asia” by Michael McCloy.

March 14

• The Navasota G.W. Carver Alumni is having their annual bake sale Saturday, March 14, beginning at 8 a.m. at Walmart in Navasota. All proceeds go for scholarships. Please come out to support this local group. For more information, please contact 936-894-2592.

March 14-15

• Bring the family out for a fun field day with the Iola VFD for their benefit BBQ Cook-off Friday and Saturday, March 14-15. There will be kid’s activities, vendors, life auction, live music & a dance. This in an IBCA sanctioned event. $225 entry fee for meats; $5000 cash payout based on entry of 25 teams, $20 entry fee for sides; 50% payout for 1st place beans, chili & open class. • In an effort to inform more people about the importance of using native plants to support birds and other wildlife, the Post Oak Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas invites the public to a free screening of the Doug Tallamy film “The Value of Having Native Plants in Our Yards.” on Tuesday March 24, 6:30 p.m. at the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History, 3232 Briarcrest Rd in Bryan. April 1

• Join the Navasota Garden Club Wednesday, April 1, 9:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Navasota to carpool to the A& M Leach Teaching Gardens. This should be a very informative meeting. Lunches will be purchased from Chicken Salad Chick to eat at the Leach Garden. Please notify an officer if you plan to attend this meeting so they can reserve your lunch.

April 4

• Join the Grimes County 4-H for a Crawfish Boil Fundraiser Saturday, April 4th, 12-7 p.m. at Navasota High School, 1 Rattler Drive. Tickets may be purchased through 4-H by March 15, tickets are $10 and includes all you can eat crawfish, treats, music and games! For more information, please contact the Grimes County Extension Office.

April 9

House Advocacy Center will host a Blue Ribbon ceremony, along with local law enforcement and child service agencies, to raise awareness of the serious problem of child abuse and/ or neglect in our community Thursday, April 9, 10 a.m. at Navasota City Hall, 200 E. • Join the First United Methodist Church for a Blood Drive Tuesday, April 9,11:30 a.m. — 5:30 p.m. at Fellowship Hall, 616 Holland St., Navasota. Please call 1-800-RED-CROSS(1-800-733-2767) or visit www.redcrossblood.org and enter Navasota to schedule an appointment

May 6

• Join the Navasota Garden Club Wednesday, March 4, 9:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Navasota to carpool to Mood Ranch Outfitters on FM 3090 in Navasota. The program is all about honeybees. The Garden Club is paying Moody Ranch to cater a great lunch. Please notify an officer if you plan to attend this meeting in order to have enough plates prepared.
