While cleaning a hotel room Monday morning, May 30, in the 9400 block of Texas State Highway 6 South, hotel staff located a bag they believed contained marijuana.

Navasota Police Officers met with hotel staff who reported the findings. Staff told officers a male rented two neighboring rooms. Officers knocked on his door, but there was no answer. As officers began to walk away, a male exited the room and fled into the woods.

Navasota Interim Police Chief Mike Mize stated officers located the suspect, Luis Perez, 30 of California, after pursuing him for several minutes. Mize stated search warrants were obtained for both rooms.

“Officers seized over 31 pounds of marijuana, over 26 grams of methamphetamine and two firearms,” said Mize.

Perez was charged with evading on foot; delivery/ manufacturing of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 (4-200 grams) and possession of marijuana (5-50 pounds).

He was booked into the Grimes County Jail. As of press time Tuesday, May 31, Perez remained in custody. His bond is set at $22,500.
