San Antonio artist Sarah Gomez received a big Navasota welcome at her opening reception June 23 at the Horlock House Art Gallery & History Museum. Joining Navasota’s many supporters of the Artist in Residence program were Gomez’s parents and friends from San Antonio and Houston. The Artist in Residence program, which hosted its first residents in 2014, is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the City of Navasota and the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley utilizing hotel/motel occupancy taxes.

Gomez shared with attendees that some of the emotions she experienced leaving home, family and familiar surroundings are expressed in her work and she’s “thankful” for the big welcome she’s received.

The art mixer also included a ribbon cutting held by the Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce recognizing the chamber’s newest member, the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley.
